Chromatic Portrait began with a limited palette and a close study of how coloured light changes the expression of a face. Layered warm and cool tones turn the dark setting into an active part of the composition.
The finished piece balances observed features with expressive colour, preserving the sitter’s presence while allowing the paint to remain visible and energetic.
